Keynote

Mary Kelly Jones, BSW, is a respected leader in grief care, education, and community collaboration, retiring in 2025 after a 31-year career at Hospice of St. Lawrence Valley, where she served as Director of Family Support Services. She is the visionary behind When Grief Comes to School, a countywide initiative that brought grief education, suicide postvention, crisis response, and professional development to both public and private schools in St. Lawrence County. For 17 years, Mary also taught an oversubscribed course on death and dying as an adjunct instructor at SUNY Potsdam, earning the President’s Award for Adjunct Teaching in 2021. Mary’s expertise extended beyond the classroom and her leadership roles, as she co-hosted The Traveler’s Guide to Life, a podcast by Hospice, and developed a comprehensive death and grief resource library. She presented grief, bereavement, and end-of-life care at various levels, including international, national, state, and local forums. She is now enjoying retirement with her husband and is a proud mother to two and grandmother to six. She continues to indulge her passion for Day of the Dead art and love of dark humor.
